Open Water Scuba Diver

Book online now!

This is the certification course to allow you to dive anywhere in the world.

  • Joe’s Scuba teaches under the SDI (Scuba Diving International) Training agency.
  • We do have instructors on staff that are also PADI instructors but the administrative costs for PADI are much higher, so if that is the certification agency you would prefer, understand the cost of all PADI classes is an additional $400 over the SDI class.
  • This course will certify you to dive as deep as 60 feet.
  • The minimum age to complete this course is 10 years old but 10 and 11 year old’s must be a private class due to the significantly higher attention needed for the younger children.
  • If you are a veteran able to use the GI Bill, you may be able to have your SDI courses reimbursed by the VA! More details and class specifics at the bottom of this page.

$650 for SDI / $1050 for PADI (If you would like a private class, typically in your own pool, $400 additional)

Includes:

  • eLearning (so you can complete the knowledge portion and exams at your pace)
  • Rental scuba equipment for all pool sessions and open water dives (tank, weights, regulator, buoyancy control device)
  • Pool sessions completed in one of the city pools or in your pool if it is a private class
    • Pool sessions are completed in one day (takes about 4-5 hrs)
    • The pools we generally use are:
      • North Charleston Aquatic Center, 8610 Patriot Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29420
      • MLK, Jr. Pool, 155 Jackson St, Charleston, SC 29403
  • 4 open water dives
    • Open Water dives in the Ravenel quarry are included, additional days at the quarry are $50/day
      • 5700 New Rd, Ravenel, SC 29470
      • This address is very close to the location, continue past this location and turn left at the large black gate just before the train tracks
    • Open Water dives must take place over a minimum of two days
    • Off shore dives are an option for day 2 or in addition to your 4 quarry dives. Additional cost of $200 for the charter.
    • The ideal combination is to complete your open water dives on Day 1 and 2 in the quarry then an offshore charter with Whole Other World Scuba, typically at the Charleston 60 or Robison wrecks. Check their availability here, but contact me to book you on the actual charter.
    • Trips to the Florida Springs are also available during with winter months, cost of the trip to FL is an additional $450 over the open water class fee (lodging not included)

You will need to have your own mask, snorkel, fins and booties for the class. We can provide those for you for $250, or you can purchase on your own somewhere else.

An option I recommend is One More Chance Scuba2408 Ashley River Rd suite i, Charleston, SC 29414 – (843) 573-7573 – to purchase the mask, snorkel, fins and booties
